TGSB-iPhone-5-hands-onRemember when we talked about the arrival of a 4inch iPhone this year?   Well, more intel has been unearthed on it – more importantly, what features/specs we can expect from it.  The latest report comes from the folks over at 9to5Mac who usually has a spot-on track record.

First things first, we’re looking it being called the iPhone 5SE.  Dubbed the SE supposedly stands for Speical Edition and will be a revamped version of the iPhone 5s.  Kind of like Google did w/ the Nexus 5X last year.  But don’t expect the 5Se to be a smaller 6s, there will be some compromises.

So far the 5SE will have curved glass instead of chamfered ones, inside will have the A8 CPU + M8 co-processor, the same 8MP rear-shooter + 1.2MP front-facing shooter from the iPhone 6, support for bigger panoramas + autofocus for video, a built-in barometer for tracking elevation, NFC chip for Apple Pay support, Live Photos from the 6s but no 3D Touch (?), faster Wi-Fi +VoLTE support, and the same color options as the 6s: Silver, Space Gray, Gold, or Rose Gold.

No word on an estimated price point as of yet but don’t expect it to be an entry-level priced device.  It will more than likely replace the 5s which currently sells for $450 off contract as the 5Se may sell around the same.  The new 4inch iPhone is said to be announced sometime in late March or early April.  There is also talks of a the new Apple Watch set to make its way to the masses w/ a September unveiling.  The new watch is set to bring forth new design + watchbands along w/ running watchOS 2.2 which will add new features to maps & the ability to sync your iPhone to multiple Apple Watch devices.

Apple is looking to expand its portfolio a bit this year.  Not sure how well a device like the iPhone 5Se will sell but looks like we might find out this year.
