Yesterday, Sonos came out of no where and unveiled a new audio product w/ the Sonos Beam.  This is a smart speaker & soundbar for you TV w/o paying Playbar/Playbase pricing.

The Sonos Beam is 60% smaller & 28% shorter than their last TV solution: the Playbase.  You got 4 subwoofers, 2 tweeters in the front, 1 in the middle, and 3 passive radiators.  Making this ideal TV & music for audio.  You can still add a pair of Sonos Ones & a Sub to craft a complete 5.1 surround sound system.  Unfortunately, there’s no Dolby Atmos support here or not at the current time anyways.

The Beam connects to your TV using an HDMI cable via HDMI ARC.  With this being a smart speaker is armed w/ HDMI-CEC that allows you to turn your TV on/off w/ your voice.  So if you got a Kinect, you can throw it out now – kidding.  The Beam will launch out of the box w/ Amazon Alexa support + AirPlay2/Siri and like the Sonos One, it will get Google Assistant sometime in the future.

You can pre-order the Beam right now and will ship out on July 17th.  It will only cost you $399 which is easily their more affordable TV speaker while the Playbase costs you $699.

So who’s pre-ordering one to add to their home?
