While things have been quiet for the LG side as MWC is coming, that changes now or last night when the news broke.  We got some news on the upcoming G8 ThinQ flagship device.

No leaks this time around as we got official info from LG themselves in the form of a press release.  So the selfie camera on the G8 will tout new technology as they’ve partnered w/ Infineon Real3 chip.  It will be a ToF (time of flight) camera that bounces infrared light off subjects as well as 3D object recognition.  In other words, you can get a more secure face unlock, better background blur, and AR abilities.

So this isn’t as bad as the headline suggests.  This is actually pretty good news for the most part.  The ToF sensors are popping up in more devices for 2019 and moving forward.

I’m looking forward to see what the G8 will have to offer after the underappreciated V40.  What do you think about the news?
