Over the past few years, Google started to make an appearance at CES and not arriving empty-handed.  Smart displays got unveiled there a few years back, Interpreter mode last year, and now we got more features coming to the Google Assistant to be even more useful.  These will apply to more than just your phone as it will expand to your home and car as well.

So what’s all that is new?

  • You can now ask Google to do things like start your robovac to clean at 4PM today or turn your AC off at 3AM or turn on the coffee maker at 6:30AM and much more.  This is a new feature called Scheduled Actions.  This will work w/ any smart home, connected car, or device that supports Google Assistant.
  • You can now leave sticky notes on your Smart Display.  You can leave messages like don’t forget to take out the trash when you get home or don’t forget to call mom and it will look like a Google Keep post-it for loved ones to see when they get home.
  • You will soon be able to use the Assistant to read articles + webpages.  Not only that but do it in 42 languages.  You just simply say ‘Hey Google, read this page.’  And down the road, it will be able to auto-scroll as it reads the highlighted text on the page.
  • Instead of having to go into my activity within your Google account, you can tell Google to delete everything I said just now, today, yesterday, this week, etc.
  • The Google Assistant is finally coming to 2020 Samsung TVs that offer the voice control feature.
  • Interpreter mode is coming to more businesses to prevent the language barrier from doing business or getting things done.
  • And last but not least, Android TVs will get far-field mic support.  This would help your TV hear you better over its audio output.  Google already utilizes this for their smart speakers + smart displays BTW.  They got companies like Hisense & TCL kicking things off.

Outside of all of these cool features, we don’t have a timeline of when we can expect them to arrive.  But this is CES so they can unveil it, check the pulse of the public on it, and launch it later.

Any of the features standout for you to try?
