Earlier today, Apple announced an update to their video-editing software, Final Cut Pro X. This 10.4.9 update will add more useful, powerful, & long-awaited features to the software via machine learning & more.
First, you’ll be able to utilize AI to analyze & crop videos called Smart Conform for social media platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter. Of course, you’ll be able to reposition the crop manually in case you don’t like the way they did it as well as add Motion graphics/text to vertical videos.
Next up, they added some native collaborative/remote editing features to work w/ colleagues on the same video. This is done by making a proxy video which are smaller, lower-res versions of the original clip. This makes for a much smaller version of your video project, fully edit it remotely, and then pass it back to your main computer for final color correction, effects, and export.
FCP X also beefs up their workflow + performance as it can better transcode 8K RED RAW video to ProRes 422 3x faster on a MacBook Pro & 2x faster on a Mac Pro. Along w/ better handling of stabilizing 360-degree video as well.
Apple also updated their Motion & Compression apps as well. All of the new updates are free for current users as FCP X is $250, Motion + Compressor are $50 each. We recommend picking up their Education bundle which includes all of the aforementioned apps & more for only $200.
