Now we told you that it was coming and it is now here & official.  Earlier today, Sony made a new addition to their Cinema line  w/ their new FX3.  This is their new $3,900 handheld cinema camera that gives you the best of their FX6 and the A7S III into one body.  Now it kind of looks like a Sony A7S III as it is – kind of.  Let me explain.

The FX3 has the same internals + specs as the A7S III but no built-in ND filter though.

The new FX3 is capable of 4K 10-bit 4:2:2, caps out at 4K @120fps/1080p @240fps utilizing a full-frame 10.2MP sensor, ISO up to 409,600, in-body image stabilization, phase detection + touchscreen autofocus w/ 627 AF points, tally lights on the front + rear of the body, more than 12 customizable buttons, full HDMI, mic/headphone jack, USB-C, micro-USB, fans that you can turn on/off, S-Cinetone color profile, active cooling to record up to 13 hours w/o overheating, the same flip out touchscreen display + menu from the A7S III, will use CFexpress Type A cards or SD cards,  and can connect Sony’s XLR-K3M Dual-Channel XLR Adapter Kit & more via their three 1/4-20inch threads for mounting.

However, you got no 4K, no built-in ND filters, or an EVF though in case any of those are important to you.  Pre-orders kick off tomorrow coming in at $3,900 as opposed to the A7S III that’s $3,500 – of course plus tax on each.  So you do have some things to think about if you’re on the fence on about which Sony camera to buy next.

So will this be your next camera?
