After being teased last month, Kia is sharing more on their upcoming electric vehicle: the EV6. This will represent their new brand as well as their new EV platform moving forward to power their next 6 EVs and into the future. Let’s dive into all that the new EV6 will offer.
The EV6 gives you a 300-mile range & the GT version goes up to over 500HP.
The EV6 will offer a rear wheel & AWD option as well as a standard range of 58kWh or long-range of 77.4kWh battery packs. This will equate to around a 300 mile range w/ the long range battery. Which will be fine for everyday commutes but could worrisome for a road trip. Performance won’t be a slouch either w/ their EV6 GT trim that will offer AWD to bring along 576 HP as well as go from 0-62MPH in 3.5 seconds.
Kia is bringing the speed to their charging like OnePlus is doing for smartphones. You will have fast charging from the beginning thanks to their 800v ultra fast-charging from 10-80& in 18 minutes and over 60 miles in just over a 4-minute charge. Like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, this will support 2-way charging. This means as well as charging the vehicle, you can also output power to other supported devices up to 3.6kW of power. They used examples of a 55inch TV & an AC for up to 24 hours. It can even tow up to 3,500lbs – just as long as the battery is over 35% though.
As far as the inside, Kia gave this thing advanced driver assistance features like Highway Driving Assist & Smart Parking, an augmented reality heads-up display that projects info to the driver that can be updated over time via OTA, and two 12inch cruved displays w/ one being in front of the driver & the other in the center to handle infotainment tasks.
Kia aims this to be their Tesla Model 3 which brings everyone to their EVs. While has had EV versions of their vehicles like the Niro & the Optima for years now, the EV6 will be a full-on approach to drawing their customers to the EV space.
While we don’t have pricing yet, what do you think about the Kia EV6 thus far? I think it looks amazing.
