Among the many predictions of today’s Apple event, this more than likely wasn’t one of them. A new Apple TV 4K + new remote for the streamer out there. I say that as the most recent one dropped in 2017 w/ their 1st 4K model and now its been updated again.
The new Apple TV 4K is now powered by their A12 Bionic CPU to handle HDR at higher frame rates as well as support 60fps Dolby Vision playback over AirPlay from an iPhone. It does support Dolby Vision natively as well BTW. However, it still doesn’t support 120Hz refresh rates though. Apple is working w/ content providers like Fox Sports, NBCUniversal, Paramount Plus, Red Bull TV, & Canal Plus for a higher HDR frame rate.
Probably the biggest draw to this is their new redesigned Siri Remote. They added some things & gave buttons better placement which should have been there since the beginning. It is now thicker, offers a new 5-way touch controllers, an actual Power button, and the Siri search button is now on the side of the remote.
The all-new Apple TV 4K starts at $179 for the 32GB model and asks $199 for the 64GB model. It goes on sale on April 30th and they refreshed their older Apple TV HD w/ the new remote for $149 as well.
