Despite being teased by President Biden at their Dearborn factory, Ford made their next EV official last night. Meet the F-150 Lightning: their 2nd fully electric vehicle behind the Mustang Mach-E & 1st electric pickup truck. Ford is putting a lot into this in regards to horsepower & technology while still retaining its F-150 roots.
So it starts w/ dual-motor that gives you a 230-mile range (base model) & goes up to a 300-mile range w/the extended range version. With the latter granting you up to 563hp + 775lb-ft of torque as well as hit 0-60 MPH in 4 seconds. Making this the fastest F-150 to date. It will still keep the always in 4×4 mode but will offer 4 different drive modes of Normal, Sport, Tow/Haul, & Off-Road.
Now it is a pickup truck so it will be able to tow a lot of weight if need be. Starting at 2,000lbs on the base model & up to 10,000lbs on the extended model. In regards to towing, you got a pro trailer hitch assist to automatically control the hitch steering, pro trailer backup assist + trailer reserve guidance to properly reverse into a park w/ a hitch, and onboard scales to make sure the weight on your can is balanced evenly. You also have a massive 14.1 cubic foot frunk that hold up to 400lbs armed w/ 2.4 kilowatts of power to plug in power tools, TVs, laptops, speakers, crockpots and more.
As far as handling the infotainment side of things, you got a 15.5inch touchscreen display that supports Alexa/CarPlay/Android Auto & will update via OTA. It will handle Ford SYNC4A features, navigation, heating/cooling, Ford’s hands-free Bluecruise driving, & more. You can even use your smartphone to lock/unlock/start your car.
Now onto the power of the F-150 Lightning as its dual motor setup offer 2 versions of a battery: 11.3 kWh standard + 19.2 kWh extended range. The battery is liquid-cooled + sealed in a waterproof casing as protection for off-roading. In regards to charging, using one of Ford’s 63,000 charging plus plug will get you up to 54 miles in 10 minutes & gets you up to 80% in 41 minutes. Charging at home, you’ll get 21 miles per charging hour w/ a 240v outlet + 14 hours to go from 15%to 100%. Ford has a 48 amp Connected Charge Station that will give 15%-100% in 13 hours as they have a 80 amp one that gets you to 100% in 8 hours.
The base model w/ 230 miles of range starts at $39,974, while the extended range version starts in the mid-$50,000s and can go about 300 miles. Ford has already started taking reservations for $100 as you can hit the link below to reserve your 2022 model.
