Yesterday, Qualcomm announced something at this point, I thought we’d never see from them: a smartphone. Now they’re chipset maker and that’s all they make, they’ve teamed up w/ ASUS to make it happen. The phone will be apart of their Snapdragon Insiders where members would enjoy BTS access, experiences, community perks & more. This phone would be part of the more.
Now ASUS put together quite the flagship w/ this one. You got a 6.7inch 1080p AMOLED display w/ 144Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 888 CPU, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of UFS3.1 storage, a triple camera setup on the rear (consisting of a f/1.8 Sony 64MP, f/2.2 12MP ultrawide, & 8MP telephoto w/ 3x optical zoom) that can shoot up to 8K@30fps + 4K @30 or 60fps, Wi-Fi 6E support, fingerprint sensor, running Android 11, and a 4000 mAh battery w/ 65W charging.
Qualcomm is even tossing in a pair of custom Master & Dynamic earbuds for free that usually retails for $300. As far as the device itself, it is said to have a $1,500 price tag attached to it. Which will be a tough pill to swallow for the most part. The Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders will be available sometime in August in the US, China, UK, & Germany at launch w/ other regions coming soon.
Outside of the steep price point, and slightly older CPU w/ the 888 Plus CPU available, I think this is a great device but not sure if they have enough enthusiasts to warrant making it. But hey, what do I know?
