Immersive audio has quietly been the new thing over the past year or so within smartphones.  Sony has their 360 Reality Audio and Apple has their more publicized Spatial Audio.  Yesterday, Verizon announced their own proprietary version of it as well called Adaptive Sound.

This has been in the works since 2019 and is finally ready for public consumption.  This will utilize software & cloud-based solution that will provide a spatial surround sound experience via earbuds, headphones, or soundbar.  This also includes Dolby Atmos content as well.  Now this won’t be a separate app but baked into the Settings menu that can be toggled on/off if you wish.  From there, you’ll be able to adjust the treble, bass, voice enhancement, & spatial surround sound.

Now this feature is currently available on their Motorola Android smartphones including the Edge Plus and the brand-new One 5G UW.  Verizon will make the feature available to other phone makers in the future via OTA update.  Now exactly which ones?  We’ll just have to wait and see.
