This morning was Samsung’s big Unpacked event where they revealed their latest innovation in folding flagship smartphones. In other words, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 are official and just about ready for consumption. So enough w/ the rumors and let’s dive into the official features & specs these have to offer.
Kicking things off w/ the Z Flip 3, we got a new look which aligns w/ the leaks. You got a folding 6.7inch 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED display w/ 2640 x 1080 resolution as your main screen and a smaller 1.9inch Super AMOLED display w/ 260 x 512 resolution on the outside or the cover w/ an IPX8 dust/water-resistant body. You got the toughest Gorilla Glass Victus w/ Aluminum Armor to help it be a bit more tougher than before.
Inside you got a Snapdragon 888 CPU w/ 8GB of RAM + choice of 128GB or 256GB UFS 3.1 faster internal storage, running Android 11 w/ Samsung One UI, fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers w/ surround sound + Dolby Atmos support, and a 3300 mAh battery capable of 4.5W reverse wireless charging, 10W fast wireless charging, & 15W fast charging. Now in regards to its cameras, we got rear dual shooters w/ a f/1.8 12MP wide-angle w/ Dual Pixel AF + OIS and a f/2.2 12MP ultra-wide, and an under-the-glass f/2.4 10MP selfie shooter.
Now moving onto the main event, the Galaxy Z Fold 3. This will be lighter & a little more durable than its predecessor as well. You got a 7.6inch 120Hz QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED display w/ 2208 x 1768 resolution fully open and the tall 6.2inch HD+ 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED display w/ 2268 x 832 resolution when its closed w/ a n IPX8 dust/water-resistant body. Also utilizing Corning’s toughest Gorilla Glass Victus + Aluminum Armor to improve its durability.
Inside you got a Snapdragon 888 CPU w/ 12GB of RAM + choice of 256GB or 512GB UFS 3.1 internal storage, running Android 11 w/ Samsung One UI, stereo speakers w/ surround sound + Dolby Atmos support, and a 4400 mAh battery capable of 4.5W reverse wireless charging, 10W fast wireless charging, & 25W fast wired charging. As far as the cameras, you got a lot of sensors on here. You got a f/1.8 4MP and a f/2.2 10MP selfie camera w/ both under display shooters. And then on the rear you got 3 shooters. There’s a f/1.8 12MP wide-angle w/ Dual Pixel AF + OIS, f/2.2 12MP ultra-wide, and a f/2.4 12MP telephoto lens w/ 2x optical zoom + Dual OIS.
And last but not least, the Fold 3 gets S Pen support as you will have 2 options to choose from: S Pen Fold Edition or the S Pen Pro 12. Both offer even lower latency and a retractable Pro tip w/ force limit technology to protect the main screen on the Fold.
So for the thing everyone wants to know about: pricing. The Z Fold 3 comes in at the lower price point of $1,800 while the Z Flip 3 comes in at $1,000. The Z Fold 2 was priced at $2,000 while the Z Flip had a $1,200 price tag on it so there are some savings w/ the newest iteration.
Those of you pre-order can get $200 of Samsung credit w/ the Fold 3 + $150 of credit w/ the Flip 3. If you got a newer device, you can take the price down a bit by trading it in. You can get up to $800 off of the Z Fold 3 or $500 off fo the Z Flip 3 up to August 26th. You can also finance one of these devices as low as $28 per month up to 36 months for those of you who have to have one.
