Earlier this morning, TCL announced an update for their 5 & 6-series 4KTVs. They’re adding the power of Google TV to run their latest TVs. So this will give users that same experience from Google’s latest Chromecast w/ Google TV – including the power of Google Assistant.
Outside of that, the pricing & features remain the same on the 5 & 6-series – for the most part. Both support HDR10+ as they add a always-listening mic for voice commands that can be turned off via physical switch. The Google TV models offer a total of 4 HDMI ports w/ 2 of them being HDMI 2.1 ports + one being eARC. The 6-series w/ Google TV gives you 4K @120Hz over the Roku model that gives you 120Hz @1440p. The 5-series won’t offer 4K @120Hz but will still have auto low-latency mode, variable refresh rate, full-array local dimming, & Dolby Atmos audio support – which the Roku version does not.
But don’t get confused, TCL isn’t abandoning the Roku versions just adding the choice of Google. You’ll can choose between Roku OS + Google TV. As TCL will continue to support both platforms moving forward as well.
Pre-orders kick off today w/ the 5-series starting at $599 for their 50inch & going up to $1,299 for their 75inch model. While the 6-series starts at $999 for the 55inch + $1,299 for the 65inch. There will be a 75inch version of the 6-series that will arrive at a later date.
