Among all of the many announcements from CES today, Google snuck out some pretty big news in regards to all of their platforms. Google is seeking to do an Apple-like approach to having all of their platforms & supported platforms working w/ each other in one ecosystem – talking to each others. Finally!
- We’re getting faster setup of all devices. Like their Fast Pair feature to pair earbuds/headphones will go to more devices on other OSes like Android TV/Google TV, Chromebooks, Windows PCs, & more. Fast Pair will also support the new Matter smart home platform to quickly add Google Home products.
- Next, you’ll be able to lock + unlock your Android phone/tablet or Chromebook w/ your Wear OS watch. This will be a native unlock that’s shared as it will be arrive in coming months. Which will be great when that Pixel Watch comes.
- Chromebook/Chromecast gets things like Bluetooth switching between audio devices, Phone Hub getting Camera Roll access, Chromecast gets built-in to add all things Bose (speakers + soundbars), Chrome OS messaging apps w/o having to download the app, and spatial audio support.
- Don’t forget that its using the UWB technology within Samsung & their own Pixel 6 Pro to lock/unlock vehicles starting w/ select BMWs later this year.
All of this new details make for those of us directly within the Google ecosystem a lot happier. We’re just getting started in 2022 but there is something to look forward to – at least on my end. How about you?
