Earlier this week among the many acquisitions that have happened lately,  you can add Sonos to the list.  They previously snatch up an audio startup T2 Software for their upcoming headphones.

So why did they grab T2 Software?  Well, according to the folks over at the Protocol, the company has been working on implementations of a new Bluetooth LE Audio standard & LC3 (or Low Complexity Communication Codec).  So LC3 offers better audio quality at lower bitrates to not affect battery life as much.  Which sounds amazing but we’ll see how it is all executed.

So after years of resisting against using Bluetooth over Wi-Fi, Sonos is finding ways to make it work.  I don’t think they were anti-Bluetooth, just against the audio quality that it produced.  Even w/ their Move & Roam portable speakers that uses Bluetooth & Wi-Fi so you have options.  The LC3 addition will make the hell of a difference in regards to having to trade-off sound quality over battery life.  This acquisition will help by offering better Bluetooth audio on their upcoming cans.

Sounds like these might be the headphones to get if they can nail the execution.  But being Sonos, don’t expect them to be affordable.  I can see them being at $399 on the low-end or slightly over $500 on the higher-end.  After hearing about this, are you more or less interested in Sonos inaugural headphones?
