Over the Memorial Day weekend, we got some news about the upcoming iPhone 14 lineup due out later this fall.   More specifically, the arrival of Always-On Display on the iPhone 14 Pro & the iPhone 14 Pro Max.  This would be yet another feature Android has had on their devices for years now finally making its way to the iPhone.

This bit of info arrives courtesy of Mark Gurman over at Bloomberg.  This could arrive as a feature on iOS 16 set to be revealed next week at WWDC 2022.  This would allow for the iPhone to show off some information on the lockscreen.  This will work how Apple handles it for the Apple Watch Series 5 & up.

By dropping the lockscreen frame rate w/ always-on to preserve energy while the display is powered on.  Now this will allegedly arrive only on the iPhone 14 Pro models and take advantage of an LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) display to pull it off.  It was rumored that the iPhone 13 series would be equipped w/ this, but it did not come to pass.

Along w/ that, iOS 16 could bring forth new things like enhanced multitasking on the iPad, audio features to Messages, & more.  The good news about it all is that we don’t have a long wait to see what Apple has been up to on the software side of things.

Is Always-On Display a  feature you’ve been waiting for to arrive on the iPhone or is it not that big of a deal?
