Yesterday amongst all of the Google news, Sonos made their budget, entry-level soundbar official. Introducing, officially, the $279 Sonos Ray. This is aimed for 1st time soundbar customers w/ the price to match.
The Ray consists of 2 tweeters on each side and 2 midwoofers in the middle – all pushing sound forward. Sonos designed it to be heard well no matter where you put it. Now being more affordable, there are some trade-offs. You’ll have Dolby Digital but no Atmos support, connects via optical cable and no HDMI + eARC ports, and no built-in mics so no TruePlay tuning her either.
Now if you already have an Arc, Beam, Playbar, or Playbase; this won’t be for you and your system. However, you can add the Ray to their smaller Sonos One, Sub, or other home audio speakers to work in tandem.
The Ray will arrive in Black & White color options and goes on sale on June 7th for $279 in the US, Canada, & other countries. Keep in mind that their Beam will cost you $449 & the Arc $899 so this is a new barrier of entry into Sonos home audio.
Also, new are more color options for the portable Sonos Roam Bluetooth speaker. Instead of just Black & White color options, you now got Sunset, Olive, & Wave to choose from. It will also have the same $179 price point.
Will you be adding the Ray to your home audio and/or a Roam now w/ some color?
