Remember that upcoming, entry-level Sonos soundbar we reported on codenamed Ray?  Well its til coming but now we got an official name for it so you can be on the lookout.  Meet the Sonos Ray soundbar coming in a few weeks w/ a $249 price tag to go along w/ it.

This bit of news comes from The Verge again BTW.  It will offer a lot less than the now more pricer Sonos soundbar options BTW.  So there won’t be any built-in mics, Dolby Atmos support, HDMI connectivity, and will be armed w/ less speakers.  But those of you who own a Beam or an Arc will be able to use 2 of the Rays rear surround speakers.  So that’s something.

Despite its shortcomings, it will be a barrier of entry for Sonos-powered home theater.  So by itself it will still have Dolby Digital audio that can be expanded to a 5.1 setup when paired w/ other Sonos speakers.  To workaround the lack of mics, you’ll be able to use either Alexa or Google Assistant  via smart speakers or the Sonos app to control things.

So we’ll have the Ray, the Beam, & the Arc soundbars to choose from or add to.  Along w/ the Ray, we’re expecting a more affordable subwoofer, wireless headphones, and streaming video platform of sorts.  And be prepared for a lot more products within Sonos inventory in the very neat future.
