Sony is one of the last phone makers pushing smartphone innovation since the likes of HTC and LG are no longer in the phone game. Earlier today, Sony continues to push the envelope in smartphone innovation w/ the latest Xperia 1 IV. So what’s the big feature here? It’s armed w/ a continuous optical zoom lens.
But let’s dive into the rest of the phone 1st. So you got a 6.5inch 4K OLED 120Hz display, powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU, 12GB of RAM, 512GB of storage expandable via micro SD card slot, IP68 dust/waterproof body, a 3.5mm headphone jack, stereo speakers, and a 5000 mAh battery w/ quick charge to give you 50% of juice in 30 minutes.
Now onto its triple camera system on the rear. All 3 are equipped w/ an Exmor RS 12MP sensor. You got an f/2.2 12MP ultra-wide, an f/1.7 12MP wide main w/ OIS, and an f/2.3-2.8 85-125mm 12MP telephoto zoom lens w/ OIS. Now the telephoto lens can pull off 3.5 – 5.2x zoom made ideally for portrait shots. Not a massive zoom range but you won’t have to worry about the noise of digital zoom here outside of 4x optical zoom.
Let’s not forget about the 12MP selfie camera as well. While on the video side of things, you can pull off up to 4K@120fps as well as 4K HDR video (on both front + rear cameras). You can take advantage of A7 camera features like Eye AF + Object Tracking as well as go into more manual settings within their new Videography Pro app.
It is due out later this fall around September 1st for $1,600. So there you have it. Everything you need to know about Sony’s upcoming Xperia 1 IV smartphone. Those of you who pre-order will get these latest WF-1000XM4 noise-canceling earbuds for free w/ it as well.
