Google teased the arrival of Gemini to replace Google Assistant for its older smart speakers at last month’s Made By Google event. We now know when to expect more information on that, alongside new Gemini-powered smart speakers, and Gemini for Home plan details will become available next month, on October 1st.

Google announced on X, with the tagline, ‘Gemini is coming to Google Home’, and teased what could be a new Gemini-powered Nest Cam. This would align with rumors of a new Nest Doorbell with a 2K camera and a new Nest speaker, which was also teased at the Made By Google event. Meanwhile, Gemini at Home will be Google Assistant’s successor for smart home and smart speakers. The new assistant will allow for more natural language commands and controls that are easier to use. We’re also expecting the service to arrive in both free and subscription-tiered plans.

I’m personally looking forward to some new Nest hardware and also curious to see how Gemini works with them. I just hope that the older smart displays and speakers can run Gemini comfortably, hardware-wise, without feeling forced to upgrade. Hopefully, there won’t be anything to worry about. *fingers crossed*
