Remember when GoPro was the pinnacle of action cameras with barely any competition? Insta360 and DJI have been innovating and moving faster than the status quo, making it hard for GoPro. GoPro is not sitting idle; the company announced its new Pro-level action cameras, the Mission 1, earlier this morning.

The Mission 1 cameras offer a 1-inch 50MP sensor for 50MP RAW photos, are powered by a new GP3 in-house chip, and are capable of recording up to 8K video. Its body offers larger physical buttons and larger screens for both the front and rear of the camera over other GoPro shooters. The new sensor provides a higher dynamic range of up to 14 stops with improved low-light performance. The shooters arrive with enhanced thermals and a new Enduro battery, which help offer up to 74 minutes of 8K video at 60fps and three hours of continuous 4K recording at 30fps. You can also use the batteries from Hero 13 cameras with Mission 1 shooters, but recording times will be shorter.

The company announced three versions of its new shooters: the Mission 1, the Mission 1 Pro, and the Mission 1 Pro ILS, the latter of which offers interchangeable Micro Four Thirds lenses. What’s the difference between them? The Mission 1 shoots 8K video up to 30fps and slow-motion 1080p video at 240fps; the 1 Pro captures 8K video up to 60fps and slow-motion 1080p video up to 960fps; and the 1 Pro ILS does everything the 1 Pro does, but adds swappable lenses. The 1 Pro ILS allows for Panasonic and Olympus lenses, albeit with a 3x crop.

GoPro hasn’t announced pricing for the Mission 1 cameras as of yet, but they’re coming sooner rather than later. The Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro are set to arrive on May 28, and the 1 Pro ILS is set to arrive sometime during Q3 of this year. The company also announced a bevy of accessories, including a DJI-like wireless lavalier mic setup, a lens hood, a camera grip, a media mod, a battery grip, a light setup, a waterproof casing, ND filters, and more. No word on the availability or pricing of the new GoPro accessories either, so you’ll have to wait on that.
