Mercedes-Benz has returned with an updated EQS line of luxury EVs featuring a metallic, sparkly black color and a sloped profile for aerodynamic advantage. Still, it adds star-shaped daytime running lights in the front. Although its changes aren’t visual, the upgrades for the 2027 EQS lie mostly within its interior and under the hood.

For the more notable upgrades, Mercedes opted for a more powerful 800-volt platform, which allows for faster recharging, and using a 350 kW DC charger adds nearly 200 miles of range in only 10 minutes. Alongside the new architecture, the company is also using a new 122 kWh battery made from silicon oxide and graphite, instead of cobalt. Another benefit of the new technology is a longer range; Mercedes quotes up to 425 miles, an improvement over the 390 miles from the 2026 model. Under the hood, the EQS touts up to 576 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, with a two-speed transmission and standard air suspension.

Mercedes provided an optional yoke-style steering wheel, which only turns through 170-degrees in total and would require your hands to rest on nine and three to support it. It also utilizes a new innovative steering-by-wire setup, which electronically steers the vehicle as opposed to via the standard steering wheel and rack.

Also new is Mercedes’ upgraded MB.OS that includes an AI assistant, running on a standard 55-inch Hyperscreen, and learns which features you use the most to showcase them on the main screen without having to search for them. The company also added heated front seatbelts, airbags within the rear seatbelts, a larger 13.1-inch rear screen rather than its predecessor’s 11.6-inch size, and two remote controls instead of just one.

The 2027 Mercedes-Benz EQS starts with the EQS450+ rear-wheel drive trim, then moves up to the EQS500 4Matic all-wheel drive standard trim, and lastly, the top-of-the-line EQS580 4Matic trim. The new EQS line is set to go on sale sometime during the latter half of this year. Pricing hasn’t been revealed just yet, but don’t expect it to cost less than $100,000.
