If you’ve been waiting for more Android XR hardware to become unveiled, today is your day. Google and Samsung have partnered together to craft a pair of Android XR glasses with the assistance of Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. The alliance was teased last year, and today at Google I/O, we get to see the fruits of come to life.
These newly announced Android XR smart glasses are made to be companions to your phones, paired via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Now despite looking like a pair of Ray-Ban Meta competitors, these specs would be audio-only without a built-in display, unfortunately. It would utilize Gemini to handle your navigation, nearby recommendations, summarized notifications, real-time language translation, and add events to your calendar. And because Samsung is involved, these specs will work within the Galaxy ecosystem seamlessly, but will work with Pixel phones and most Android devices.
Both Gentle Monster and Warby Parker’s specs are set to arrive sometime later this fall. However, pricing and the full feature set have yet to be revealed, but this offers a better idea of what Google’s future vision for Android XR is and/or could be.
