Yesterday, Sony celebrated its 10th anniversary of its award-winning, noise-canceling 1000X headphones. Instead of doing a celebration, the company announced a new high-end pair of headphones in its honor. Introducing the $650 Sony 1000X Collexion headphones, which are modeled after its latest WH-1000XM6 cans.
The new Collexion cans are modeled after premium audio headphones like Audeze, Bang & Olufsen, Bowers & Wilkins, Focal, etc. in both design and price. They’re comprised of steel and vegan leather, offer a thicker (by 40%) and wider (by 10%) headband for better weight distribution, have slimmer earcups by 5mm, and retain the non-folding earcups from the XM5s.
On the audio side of things, it utilizes a custom driver system comprised of unidirectional carbon fiber, combined with Sony’s QN3 chip and V3 integrated audio processor and DSEE Ultimate (an AI enhancing feature to improve audio) for overall improved output over its XM-series cans. It also includes a spatial audio mixer to toggle between music, gaming, and cinema modes.
And despite being equipped with a total of twelve mics, the Collexion cans won’t match the superior ANC abilities of the XM6s, and the same applies to its battery life. Instead of the 30 hours offered by the XM6s, you’ll only get 24 hours of juice on a single charge, with ANC on. Lastly, the Collexion headphones will include a magnetic carrying case, which is similar to the XM6s, but this premium offering includes a handle.
The Sony 1000X Collexion headphones are available now and arrive in your choice of Black and Platinum color options. In addition, Sony also unveiled the WH-1000XM6 headphones in a new Sandstone color option, which retails for $400 and includes a $30 gift card.
