Yesterday, Google Fi, the company’s prepaid phone service, announced a deal too good to pass up and several new features to go with it. For the uninitiated, Google Fi is a prepaid MVNO that combines T-Mobile and US Cellular networks into a single network with Google branding. Coverage in my area and at the places I frequent has been great. I’ve reviewed and used the service for years, as my wife is still a loyal customer.

For a limited time, new subscribers can save 50% on an Unlimited Premium plan for 12 months. This is their top-tier plan, which offers 100GB of 5G data, 50GB of mobile hotspot data, connectivity for select smartwatches, tablets, and laptops, international coverage in over 200 destinations, 100GB of Google One storage, and 6 months of free YouTube Premium. The Ultimate Premium plan usually costs $65 per month for one line but drops to $33 with the promo pricing, which ends on June 30.

Regarding the newly announced features, Fi now offers an upgraded dual cellular-switching technology, which means Pixel phones will find and connect to a stronger signal faster than before. Wi-Fi Auto Connect+ (W+), premium Wi-Fi for safer and faster connections, expands to Asia and Europe. Google Fi’s built-in VPN expands to South Korea and Japan. International 5G service is now available in 22 new locations, including Columbia and Morocco, growing its 5G total to over 110 countries. Lastly, Google Fi can verify international service during your initial setup and automatically detect and fix technical issues if they arise.
