After being leaked late last month, Google announces its own Bluetooth tracker called the Pixel Tag. The tracker will work on Google’s Find Hub network; it will cost you $30 for one and $100 for a four-pack, but unfortunately, it only comes in the one color of Fog.
The Pixel Tag heavily resembles the Fitbit Air’s sensor but is made shorter and wider in comparison. It measures thicker than a credit card but is still small enough to carry and place in your wallet, luggage, keys, etc. Google made it from polycarbonate and metal and offers an IP67 dust- and water-resistant coating, a built-in speaker for audible tones, and works with devices running Android 9 or newer.
The tracker utilizes ultra-wideband and Bluetooth channel sounding for accurate location up to 164 ft. The latter is used in digital car keys and smart door locks and can also verify accurate location. The Tag is also powered by a small coin battery that is expected to last at least one year before replacing. With the included battery, it doesn’t weigh much, coming in at only 0.4 oz.
Unfortunately, the Pixel Tag won’t be available right away, as Google is expecting it to go on sale on November 11.
