While Google’s newest Pixel Watch 5 gets a modest hardware upgrade, it brings forth several new health-focused software features. As the Obsidian color returns, it’s joined by Fog, Olive, and Canyon colors.
Nearly every returning Google product gets a price hike, and the Pixel Watch isn’t excluded. The 41 mm Wi-Fi model is now $400, the 45 mm Wi-Fi version costs $430, and $500 and $530 for the respective LTE models. And like the Fitbit Air, the Pixel Watch 5 arrives in a 45 mm LTE Steph Curry Edition with a limited-edition band with a brown and orange colorway and watchface for $529.
On the hardware side, the newest Pixel Watch adds a faster version of the Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 chip, more RAM, double the storage to 64 GB, and slightly larger batteries, with cells rated at 332 mAh and 465 mAh, up from last year’s model.
On the software side, the watch uses its sensors to detect breathing emergencies, accurately track routes with GPS, monitor your blood pressure patterns, and assess insulin resistance using signals such as your heart rhythm, sleep quality, and daily movement. The latter two features aren’t made to replace your blood pressure monitor or glucose monitor and are more like wellness features.
Google also brings over the Gemini-powered Health Coach from the Google Health app to provide improved fitness features. The new wearable also brings over the power of Gemini Intelligence, which includes features like more accurate voice typing, proactive suggestions, time- and location-based notifications such as flight info, ETAs, and other reminders.
The Google Pixel Watch 5 still offers a 3000-nit display, dual-band GPS, an IP68 body, loss of pulse, AFib, fall detection, car crash detection, and a bevy of sensors, such as a compass, altimeter, SpO2 monitoring, optical heart rate, accelerometer, gyroscope, skin temperature, barometer, and magnetometer.
You can reserve your Pixel Watch 5 today, which arrives with 3 months of Google Health Premium for free and goes on sale on August 20. The Steph Curry edition will become available for purchase on September 3.
