While many thought it would be Google to snatch up this livestreaming service for gamers. And many thought that it would have made sense for Microsoft to buy them but surprisingly enough, Amazon took from everyone. Today Amazon announced that it has acquired Twitch.
Amazon is seriously on building their empire outside of just great deals + fast shipping.
“Amazon and Twitch optimize for our customers first and are both believers in the future of gaming,” said Twitch CEO Emmett Shear. “Being part of Amazon will let us do even more for our community. Twitch is only 3 years old as it launched in June 2011 for gamers. Amazon will acquire all of the outstanding shares of Twitch for approximately $970 million in cash, as adjusted for the assumption of options and other items. Subject to approval of course, the acquisition is expected to close in the second half of 2014.
