Google’s X team have been hard at work some piece of innovation to share w/ the world.  We now have the smart contact lens equipped w/a tiny wireless chip and a super-small glucose sensor. At 1st glance, you may think that this is the next evolution of Google Glass.  While it could be, the purpose of the smart contact lens is more helpful than recreational.

Google aims to tackle diabetes by monitoring your glucose levels from your eye.

The electronics involved are super-small chip + sensors that resembles bits of glitter and an antenna that’s thinner than a single human hair to measure the glucose in your tear.  Hopefully to soon say goodbye to pricking your finger.  Everything is embedded between 2 layers of soft contact lens material.  They’re looking for employ tiny LED lights that would light up when your levels get too high.

While many of you maybe skeptical about it and think the company is monitoring other things like your location and what you see, this is an interesting approach to keep up with a deadly disease that’s plaguing our country.  Anyways, this is still a proof of concept and will take some time before you can actually buy one.
