Today, Samsung unveiled a new-and-improved version of their popular T7 portable SSD that’s more durable + rugged. Meet the T7 Shield SSD which is essentially the same the hardware but adds more protection on the outside. Now this may not sound like much but for those of you who edit for a living, this can be a must-have tool for you.
Now this adds a grippy rubber coating that grants it IP65 dust/water-resistance as well as drop protection up to 9.8ft and less scratches/scuffs. And by them using rubber, it can transfer up to 2TB w/ overheating. This is thanks to their Dynamic Thermal Guard feature that throttles data transfers to keep the hardware safe.
Outside of that, you’ll still get read speeds up to 1,050MB per second + write speeds up to 1,000MB per second. It will arrive in Black, Blue, & Beige color options as it will include a USB-C to USB-C and a a USB-C to USB-A cables. You just don’t have the fingerprint reader from the T7 Touch in case you were wondering.
This is only like $30 more than the current T7 SSD by the way which starts at $115 for a 1TB. You can grab yours today in your choice of 1TB for $144 or a 2TB option for $261.
