Last week, G-Shock held their 40th anniversary Shock The World event in NYC to highlight the company’s contributions to innovation, fashion, and global culture. As well as offering good eats, open bar, and a few rappers, influencers, & tastemakers like J. Balvin, Ja Rule, Jojo Simmons, Justina Valentine, Dave East, Young Paris, Alexandra Richards, and more present to help celebrate.
The press conference included talks from the G-Shock leadership team – including the “Father of G-SHOCK”Kikuo Ibe. We got to see the origins and rich history of the G-Shock brand with many, many of their staples pieces on display from over the years. This includes limited edition and collaboration pieces such as Wu-Tang, Super Mario Bros, and Transformer pieces. The company also took the time to introduce new pieces like their new, refreshed models like their new limited edition Carbon 5000 pieces, full metal polychromatic pieces, and new multicolor additions to the popular GAB2100 or CasiOak line.
One of the big highlights was the unveiling of G-Shock’s Dream Project #2, which is an human & AI-designed timepiece that exhumes luxury. The Dream Project #2 offers a see-through dial, shock & water-resistant body, solar charging system, and covered in 18K Yellow Gold. The rare timepiece also ships inside of a box with an LED light housed inside. The Dream Project #2 will be sold in an auction for charity by Phillips, one of the world’s foremost auction houses, on December 9 to 10 in NYC. All proceeds will be donated to environmental organizations.
And G-Shock didn’t stop there as the press and many others got treated to an incredible performance by global superstar and prince of Reggaeton, J. Balvin. He blessed us with an hour-long concert where he performed hits like In Da Ghetto, Que Calor, Mi Gente, Ay Vamos, and La Cancion to name a few. It was an amazing way to end the evening. Huge thanks to the G-Shock team for the invite and wishing them another 40 more years of success and innovation.
