Yup, the update many owners of Google Home and Nest devices have been waiting for is finally here. Google announced earlier today that the Gemini early access update, which replaces Google Assistant, will begin rolling out today.
You can prompt Gemini the same way you did with Google Assistant, by saying ‘Hey Google’ to get started, and Gemini Live can be activated by just saying ‘Hey Google, let’s chat.’ Google also shared a list of 100 things to try using Gemini, which covers prompts to expand your knowledge, get quick answers, follow sports, fix issues at home, play music, podcasts, video, control your smart home, monitor security cameras, create tasks, shopping lists, and learn new skills.
So how does one gain early access? Make sure you have the latest version of Google Home v4.1, tap your profile, go to Home Settings, scroll down to Early Access, sign up, and you’re done. However, you’ll have to wait until you actually get access to it, as it’s not instant.
This update should bring new life to its aging smart speakers and devices with a more conversational—not sure how it will affect the devices’ performance.
