Google TV is about to get more powerful, thanks in part to this upcoming Gemini update. The company announced earlier today at CES 2026, new features (mostly voice-activated) that give the AI assistant more helpful and fun abilities, which are coming soon to compatible TVs and devices.
Probably the biggest news from this is access to Nano Banana and Veo, which are Google’s AI-powered photo and video editing and creation tools, will arrive on your TV. These tools can be used to transform your family photos and create AI-based video clips on your TV. Next, Gemini will soon be able to control your TV settings via your voice with natural language. This means you will have the ability to adjust the picture, sound, or add closed captioning—all by asking Gemini to do so.
You can use Gemini to search for specific people, images, or moments within your Google Photos library. You’ll also have the ability to edit styles via Photo Remix as well. Google’s AI assistant can also pull up high-resolution images, video context deep dives, real-time sports updates, or whatever subject.
The new update is heading to TCL TVs with Google TV first, then to other Google TV devices in the coming months. I just started using the current version of Gemini on Google TV for the Google TV Streamer 4K, and my family and I are already getting more out of it than the Google Assistant. I am definitely looking forward to checking the features when they become available.
