Just like every other piece of technology as of late, Nintendo’s Switch 2 console is getting a price hike. The company’s newest gaming console is going from $450 to $500, effective September 1st. This $50 increase is thanks in part to the growing global RAM and component shortage.
And because it’s a global issue, prices will also increase in other markets as well. Pricing in Canada will go from $630 to $680, Europe from €460 to €500, and Japan from ¥49,980 to ¥59,980. Japan appears to get the worst of it, as Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions, the original Switch, the Switch OLED, and the Switch Lite models get similar increases there as well.
Nintendo shared the bad news during this earnings call last week and anticipated a slowdown of sales in the process. This is after the fact of selling nearly 20 million Switch 2 consoles since its launch. So if you had plans to pick up one, we suggest you do so before the new pricing takes effect.
