On Wednesday afternoon, my son and I attended SweetSuite in NYC, which is a Toy Insider event. We got a chance to check out games on the Nintendo Switch 2, play in the small ball pit, get hands-on with several upcoming accessories and squishy toys, and devour some good food. There were many interesting products on display, but one caught my attention above everything else: the Energizer booth.

More specifically, Energizer’s Ultimate Child Shield batteries, which offer a combination of preventative measures within an innovative solution to combat small children eating coin-cell lithium batteries. The Energizer Ultimate Child Shield batteries are available now for as low as $11, at select physical and online retailers and are available in 2032, 2025, and 2016 cell sizes. This adds an extra layer of protection for its 3-in-1 Child Shield batteries.

These batteries are often found inside many household items, such as key fobs, scales, watches, small toys, and notable Apple AirTags. So they can be easy to find for curious little ones. If they do swallow one, you need to act fast, as the typical battery can create fatal internal burns within the span of two hours. And according to recent statistics, over 3,500 coin batteries are swallowed by children every year.

Energizer is doing their part by being the first company to create defensive measures to help protect our little ones. These include secure packaging that requires scissors to open; a non-toxic bitter coating to help deter swallowing; its Color Alert technology, which uses a non-toxic food dye to turn the mouth blue to indicate possible ingestion; and a no-burn technology that prevents burns in your child’s esophagus. And yes, this technology provides the same burn protection for cats and dogs as well.
