With Google joining the competition for a screenless fitness band with its Fitbit Air against Whoop, it was only a matter of time before other bigger companies got involved. While it’s been relatively quiet on Samsung’s end regarding rumors, we can’t say the same for Apple.

According to a recent Bloomberg report, Apple is working on a prototype of a thin fabric band with a sensor module. The company isn’t in a rush, as the device is currently in an early stage of development. Apple calls it a technology investigation phase, where the company completes months of research before delving into hardware possibilities.

At the earliest, its screenless fitness tracker wouldn’t hit shelves until 2028—and that’s if the project doesn’t get scrapped. Especially since the newer Apple Watch models have adopted several of Whoop’s features, including a more continuous heart-rate monitor and a readiness score.
