Say goodbye to the codename Project Scorpio and say hello to the Xbox One X. It was teased last year at E3 and it has arrived. Already packing more powerful hardware than the PlayStation 4 Pro, the One X can handle 4K gaming @60fps as well as HDR gaming w/ Dolby Atmos support.
The Xbox One X is basically a hardcore gaming computer.
Inside of the now smallest Xbox, it has a custom 8-core AMD CPU, a 6 teraflop 1.17GHz custom GPU, 12GB of GDDR RAM, and a 4K Blu-Ray drive. Making it about more powerful than the PS4 Pro. It will be similar to the One S by ditching the Kinect port but offering an HDMI-in as well as liquid-cooled vapor-chamber cooling system inside to prevent any overheating.
Microsoft made sure to make the One X for all too. So if you don’t have a 4K TV yet, it supersampling to make new games look better than they would on a 1080p TV. So you won’t need to buy new games as it will be compatible w/ everything from the Xbox One. However, games that take full advantage of the new console will be listed as ‘Xbox One X Enhanced’. The same games can still be played on the Xbox One & Xbox One S but you should expect slower performance & less visual effects.
Launch titles for the One X will bring Forza Motorsport 7, Metro: Exodus, Assassin’s Creed: Origins, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, State of Decay 2, Deep Rock Galactic, and Dragonball Fighter Z. Some are timed exclusives and some will arrive next year. Games like Gears of War 4, Killer Instinct, Minecraft, Forza Horizon 3 and Halo Wars 2 will 4K upgrades ahead of the One X launch. But the upgrades will also come to more than 30 third-party titles like Final Fantasy 15 to Resident Evil 7.
This makes 3 tiers of the gaming console or standard (Xbox One), slightly enhanced (Xbox One S), and now the hardcore, 4K + VR gaming machine (Xbox One X). The Xbox One X will be out on November 7th for $499.
The price is a little steep but I kind of expected it. Who’s ponying up for the new Xbox?
