The Windows Mobile you once knew is gone, as a name and everything about the OS. Microsoft gives their mobile OS a much needed overhaul and as much as they could’ve just gave Windows Mobile a simple UI change, they went for a complete remodelling. Enter the new world of Windows Phone 7.

In a world where Android widens its mark/presence with smartphones (& soon PC tablets), WebOS & Palm spreading to other carriers (well one really), BlackBerry arming its devices with a speedy Webkit browser, and the iPhone not showing any signs of it slowing down. Microsoft needed to do something to stay afloat amongst the fierce competition. They haven’t been doing well during the upheaval of other OS as they made small changes all the while maintaining the same Windows Mobile feel/look. The Touch Pro 2 wasn’t received too well despite being released on all of the top 4 US carriers along with the Pure for AT&T (another miss). Those may or may not be their last.
Windows Phone 7 offers everything it did before with a few new treats. It uses hubs (People, Pics, Games, Music+Video, Marketplace, and Office) as the center of the phone connecting the hubs with each other along with social networking services. The new treats offered with WP7 are Xbox Live chatting, viewing gamer profiles, & gaming (some 3D, some iPhone-like) and Zune on a Windows Phone = iPod on the iPhone but WP will have FM radio support.
Along with a plethora of manufacturers & carriers lined up to offer it, the WP will have everything it needs to sell BUT will the public feel the same way. Although this post title poses the question, from what I’ve seen thus far I can answer yes. Again it’s up to the people willing to give the revamped Windows Mobile a shot.
