At this point waiting for Apple TV (I’m referring to the long rumored non-set top box) might as well be pointless. This doesn’t mean the company has no plans on evolving past their now $69 streaming box.
Consider this their evolution from the Apple TV.
To be a part of Apple’s WWDC announcements is an online TV service that would offer up to 25 channels to iOS devices & the Apple TV. The offering would include ABC, CBS, & Fox to name a few. They already have HBO on board w/ HBO Now. They hope to include that of ESPN & FX as well as Apple hope to offer a large on-demand library of content.
Interestingly enough, this service was supposed to be powered by Comcast on a set-top box that would utilize priority internet traffic. But after negotiations went south, Apple thought the company was stringing them along as they developed their own X1 cable box. Apple winded up rolling it out solo dolo and probably won’t offer any NBCUniversal channels at launch.
The TV streaming service is expected to be announced in June w/a September launch. With iOS 9, new Beats-powered music streaming service, and more; it sounds like this year’s WWDC might be the company’s most interesting yet.
