Well, they finally did it.  Canon finally brought 4K video to their consumer line of shooters.  They chose their mirrorless line to get dibs first w/ the all-new Canon EOS M50.  I am a little shocked that they didn’t go w/ the Rebel line but nonetheless, it is here.

The entry-level M50 sports the latest DIGIC 8 processor, Canon’s Dual Pixel phase-detection AF w/ 99 points of AF, 24.1MP APS-C sensor that can record 4K @24fps, 1080p @60fps, or 720p @120fps slow motion, ISO range of 100-25,600 that’s expandable to 51,200, burst mode at 10fps or 7.4fps w/ continuous AF, OLED optical viewfinder w/ touch & rag auto-focus, a flip out touchscreen ideal for vloggers, a new silent shooting mode, 3.5mm mic jack, HDMI out, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, & NFC connectivity.

There are some downsides to this new shooter though.  The 4K video here has a 1.6x crop on top of the cropped APS-C sensor which will get you less image quality, the Dual Pixel AF doesn’t work in 4K, and there is no in-body optical stabilization here.

The M50 will cost you $780 for the body & $900 w/ the kit lens.  The M50 is coming faster than you know it as it will begin shipping in April.

So who’s interested in Canon’s 1st 4K camera?
