Now this was actually leaked minutes before the keynote started.  Apple decided that the iPad was too powerful to be coupled w/ iOS and gave the iPad its own OS.  Welcome to iPadOS: Basically iOS w/ a little more power & more real estate.

And like iOS13, it brings over system-wide Dark Mode, Street View for Apple Maps, Sign In w/ Apple, improved performance, and the swiping Quick Path keyboard but adds a little more to it.

  • You got a new homescreen that allow you to add widgets like Weather, Calendar, Events, & more.
  • So before you had Split View but now you got support for multiple Windows.
  • You now get desktop-level web browsing on Safari.  This allows for web apps like SquareSpace, WordPress, & Google Docs to work even better.  This also adds 30 new keyboard shortcuts, a download manager, and better tab management.
  • If you don’t have a keyboard accessory, you now have the floating keyboard option that supports Quick Path.
  • You can now do more w/ the Apple Pencil like markup entire webpages, documents or emails.  All w/ a new toolbar for quick access to tools for editing/manipulating.
  • Support for SD cards & USB flash drives via the Files app.

The official iPadOS drops later this fall.  Developers get access today and arrives to public beta later this month.  So iPadOS will go back to the iPad Air 2, the iPad mini 4, the 5th-gen iPad, and all versions of the iPad Pro.

So who’s looking to do more w/ their iPad when this software update arrives?
