Double Dragon & Kunio-Kun Retro Brawler Bundle: 8-Bit Nostalgia

This latest gaming review is dedicated to my fellow 80s & 90s babies out there who were gaming back then.  This was back when gaming when a lot simpler, less complex, and much more difficult.  As opposed to today’s games which are much more complex, more detailed, and a lot easier in comparison – IMO.

Today, we’re talking about the new Double Dragon & Kunio-Kun: Retro Brawler Bundle.  This bundle offers a total of 18 games w/ 55 in-game missions going all the way back to 1987.  This includes 3 Double Dragon titles, 8 classic Kunio Kun titles that came to the US, and 11 Kunio Kun titles that are making its way to the US for the 1st time ever + being made for English.  We’ve been rocking for about a week and we’re ready to talk about it.  Here’s our review on it.

Although there is a total of 18 games in the bundle, some of them are more or less the same games – save for a few minor details.  But the retro experience among is still a flash from the past.  Playing the older games like Renegade can take some getting used to w/ the whole punching/kicking in the direction you’re facing is a fighting system that hasn’t been seen/used in a while.  I spent most of my time playing the Double Dragon series and the Street Basketball games.  The overall bundle is still challenging enough to take up your time and to enjoy.

Games can be played either on or offline.  However, there is no rewind feature though.  They made sure not to skimp out on the customization aspect either.  You have the ability to switch resolutions, customize your controls, audio settings, and an option called Quality Up that allows for balance adjustments + lag fixes to make retro gaming a lot less painful.

I think Arc System Works (known for the Guilty Gear series & more) did an amazing job w/ this bundle.  The Double Dragon & Kunio-Kun: Retro Brawler Bundle is like a flashback for me having owned & played the OG Double Dragon series on NES back in the day.  This one will be mainly for the 80s & 90s babies as nostalgia will be the real drive to pick this up.  Not that those of you who missed that era shouldn’t buy it but I’m not sure if you’d be interested in visiting that part of gaming of the past – but I could be wrong.  The bundle is available now for both Nintendo Switch + the PS4, it will cost $40 via digital-only BTW.
