In preparation for Black History Month in February, Apple is trying to show other companies how to do better. They will be dropping a limited-edition Apple Watch Series 6 w/ its own watchband, watchface, & proceeds going to civil rights organizations.
The new Black Unity Edition Apple Watch Series 6 comes in a Black, Green, & Red-striped band w/ matching watchface to reflect the Pan-African flag. It will have its onw branding under the watch -where the heartrate sensors are as well. Outside of that, it will be a standard aluminum edition Series 6 starting at $399 and the band can be bought separately for $49 for those of you who already own an Apple Watch.
The Black Unity Apple Watch will go o sale on February 1st at Apple & Target online/physical retailers. The watch will only be sold throughout the month of February but the band will stay available all year. The watchface is available right now so as long as your Apple Watch is running watchOS 7.3.
Proceeds will go to 6 global organizations like the Black Lives Matter Support Fund via the Tides Foundation, European Network Against Racism, International Institute on Race, Equality and Human Rights, Leadership Conference Education Fund, NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc., and Souls Grown Deep.
Along w/ the watch, Apple is doing a few other initiatives to go towards the cause. There will be a dedicated hub in the App Store for Black-owned businesses + developers, Apple Maps will offer curated Black-owned restaurants from EatOkra, Apple TV + Apple News will curate stories focused on Black families + the Black experience, Apple Books + Podcasts will showcase Black authors + podcasters, and Apple Music will get curated playlists, essays, & videos.
