So Sony finally dropped the full details on their Xperia Pro smartphone here in the US and we got some things to discuss. Now the $2,500 price tag will have most folks in an uproar but this isn’t made for the everyday consumer or even creative hobbyist. This is made for the true professionals or those of you who afford this w/ ease.
So at 1st glance, you could say that this sounds like last year’s Xperia 1 II w/ 5G + mini HDMI and double the price. And you’d be absolutely right. You got the same 6.5inch 4K (sort of) OLED display w/ 3840 x 1644 resolution, on a tall 21:9 candybar aspect ratio body, powered by last year’s Snapdragon 865 5G CPU, 12GB of RAM, 512GB of storage expandable up to 1TB via microSD, running Android 10, IP68 rating, and a 4000 mAh battery inside. Now you got 3 rear shooters w/ the same megapixel sensor but 3 different ranges. So you got a f/1.7 12MP wide-angle 24mm lens, a f/2.2 12MP ultra-wide 16mm lens, and a f/2.4 12MP telephoto 70mm lens capable of shooting 4K HDR video as well w/ OIS.
Now onto what makes this phone a little different. It is armed w/ a mini HDMI port alongside a USB-C to be used as an external monitor as well as handle livestreams up to 4K@60fps as well. This would be ideal for those transmitting photos /videos to clients for livestreams as well as TV broadcasts. So this would work for those of you livestreaming to YouTube as well as support streaming apps like StreamLabs, StreamYard, Twitch, and Facebook Live.
This is thanks to Sony’s new 4-way mmWave antenna array inside to maximize reception. They also use a network visualizer to find the best place to get a signal as this supports both Sub-6GHz + mmWave 5G technologies. Even w/ all of this, Sony has to justify this pricing as it makes a smaller display monitor. So this would targeted to those who are specifically in TV/online video production.
