So instead of the A7R V we were expecting, Sony gave us something completely different.  More specifically, a new member of A-line called the Alpha 1.  This will offer some serious high-end features for those of you who want something to compete w/ Canon’s high-end full-frame mirrorless EOS R5.

Sony goes 8K w/ a new  50MP sensor, and a lot more.

The Alpha gives you what you would expect from the A7R line and much, much more.    You got a full-frame stacked Exmor RS CMOS 50.1MP sensor, powered by their Bionz XR image processing engine w/ 8x the power, capable of shooting up to 8K@30fps in 10-bit 4:2:0 XAVC HS w/ 8.6K oversampling for up to 30 minutes w/o overheating, 4K@120fps in 10-bit 4:2:2,  can do 16-bit RAW w/ an external recorder, 15 stops of dynamic range for photos & 15+ stops for video, ISO 100-102,400, can shoot up to 30fps, better real-time eye AF for humans + animals, added real-time eye AF for birds, 5-axis optical in-body image stabilization, S-Cinetone color matrix from the FX6 + FX9, an OLED Quad-XGA EVF w/ a refresh rate up to 240fps, a quiet electronic shutter, dual SD UHS II and dual CFexpress card slots, a full HDMI port, a mic + headphone jack, an optional multi interface shoe w/ digital audio, Wi-Fi, SuperSpeed USB-C up to 10Gbps, 1000Base-T Ethernet port, and get up to 530 shots on a single charge.

Now w/ all that this is offering, this will be the most expensive E-mount camera from Sony thus far.  The Sony Alpha 1 will cost you $6,498 for the body only which actually more than the Canon EOS R5 believe it or not.  Pre-orders kick off tomorrow as you can expect them to ship around late February and full availability sometime in March.

So did Sony prove to you that their worth your $$$ or not quite?
