Meet the new-and-improved Surface Duo 2, Surface Go 3, Surface Pro 8, updated Surface Pro X, and the Surface Laptop Studio. All premium and all Microsoft. Let’s dive into all that they have to offer.
Kicking things off is their Surface Duo which needed a much-needed update and they gave it one. As far as it cameras go, you got a f/1.7 12MP wide shooter w/ OIS, f/.24 12MP telephoto shooter w/ OIS, f/2.2 16MP ultra-wide shooter, and a 12MP selfie camera. The rear shooters are capable of up to 4K @60fps w/ auto HDR, night photography mode, and Portrait mode. Hopefully this will lead to better cameras that the previous model.
All while being able to use 2 Android apps simultaneously for once. The new Surface Duo 2 is up for pre-order now at Microsoft’s store for $1,500. It goes on sale on 10/20.
Next up, we got the Surface Go 3 which is more or less a modest update to the Go 2. The big change here is the addition of new Intel chipsets: your choice of the Pentium Gold or the Core i3. This makes it 60% faster than the previous one.
Outside of that, you got the same 10.5inch 1080p displays, up to 8GB of RAM, same 5MP front-facing + 8MP rear-facing cameras, up to 11 hour battery life, up to 128GB SSD, same stereo speakers, & same USB-C port. All running Windows 11 Home w/ Windows Hello face authentication via camera.
Microsoft will have only a Wi-Fi-only model at launch w/ LTE model coming later. The Surface Go 3 starts at $400 as you can pre-orders yours now.
Moving along we got the Surface Pro 8 bringing us features many have been requesting for years now. Bigger + faster screen, more power, Thunderbolt 4 ports, and new keyboard. Making the new Pro 8 40% faster CPU performance + 74% faster GPU performance.
The Surface Pro 8 now has a 13inch display w/ 2880 x 1920 resolution + 120Hz refresh rate. It will be similar to how Apple does its ProMotion w/ it staying at 60Hz by default and will jump to 120Hz for touch/stylus actions. You can go up to a Core i7 CPU, up to 32GB of RAM, & up to 1TB of storage. Gone are the USB-A ports as you now have 2 USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports + Surface Connect port for charging. And last but not least, a suggested battery life of up to 16 hours on a single charge as Microsoft quotes.
All of this to help it better live up to the Pro name now that there are so many other Surface 2-in-1 computers now. Pre-orders kick off today & pricing starts at $1,100 as it will officially go on sale on 10/5.
Microsoft has been working on this beauty w/o any leaks and it is the Surface Laptop Studio. This is the next-in-line successor to the Surface Book laptop w/ some inspirations from the Studio desktop computer. Microsoft calls it the most powerful Surface product they’ve made & they might be right.
The Laptop Studio offers a 14.4inch display w/ 2400 x 1600 resolution as well as 120Hz refresh rate + Dolby Vision. Inside you’ll have either Core i5 w/ Intel Iris Xe GPU or Core i7 w/ NVIDIA RTX 3050 Ti GPU, up to 32GB of RAM, up to 2TB of removable SSD storage, 2 USB 4 ports w/ Thunderbolt 4, charging port, 3.5mm headphone jack, quad speakers w/ Dolby Atmos support, running Windows 11 Home w/ Windows Hello support, & up to a suggested 19-hour battery life.
This is utilizing a new Dynamic Woven Hinge that allows it to transform into different modes like laptop, stage, & studio. Laptop mode is self-explanatory to have it look/operate like a regular laptop. Stage mode is the one you’ll more than likely see in all of the press images that will allow you to pull the display forward over the keyboard leaving just the trackpad exposed. This will be ideal for gaming, streaming, & such. And Studio mode is where it will almost lay down flat to be used for writing, sketching, & such.
The Surface Laptop Studio will ship on 10/5 w/ pre-orders happening right now. Pricing starts at $1,600 BTW as you know it wouldn’t be cheap.
And last but not least, Microsoft is offering a cheaper option for their Surface Pro X. However this time around, you’ll only have Wi-Fi connectivity for the lower price point. This is w/ an ARM-based custom SQ2 CPU powering everything as well as ARM improvement so it can run better on Windows 11.
Outside of that its the same 13inch display, up to 16GB of RAM, up to 512GB removable SSD, 2 USB-C + a charging port, stereo speakers, & up to 15 hour suggested battery life. For those of you interested, the new base price is $900 and you won’t have to wit as you can order yours right now.
