Microsoft also made its disc-to-digital feature to digitize physical game collections official. The news was reported early last month, as way to keep your older titles and move forward with them for the next-gen Xbox console, which is reportedly on the way.
Most Xbox One and Xbox Series X disc-based games will support this feature. It would work by claiming a digital entitlement when you insert a supported disc into your console. After the entitlement is claimed, you can move it from account to account if sharing with friends, and the game will be accessible digitally via Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Microsoft will begin testing this feature with Xbox Insider testers on August 31st and then roll out to Xbox One or Xbox Series X consoles in coming months. Obviously, not every single title will be supported at launch, as the company will start with thousands and grow from there. Hopefully, Sony can figure out a way to replicate this for its upcoming PlayStation console, as the company will no longer use disc-based games moving forward.
