In more news potentially set to arrive at Google I/O next month: the return of Google Wallet.  Looks like they’re trying top properly build it out to get it closer to Apple Wallet standards – as it should’ve been some time ago.

According to Mishaal Rahman over on Twitter, Google Wallet interface is coming to Google Play Services to access + manage payments, transit cards, passes, rewards memberships, & more.  Sort of how the current iteration of Google Pay is now.

The leaked image above shows off what the new Wallet UI would look like within the app.  Now this will live within the Google Pay app as it will still support contactless payments.  So to make it simple, Wallet will hold you cards and Pay will handle the payments – all within one single app.

Google Wallet kicked off on 2011 as their NFC payment app and have turned into a digital + physical payment.  It wind up folding w/ Android Pay in 2015 and turning into Google Pay in 2018.  Google Pay has gotten really good and useful over the past few years.  So hopefully, this Wallet addition could potentially make it even better.

Add this to the many new things expecting to arrive at I/O this year.  So between new hardware & software, Google I/O 2022 is looking more interesting than we’d hoped it would.
