Yup, the teased Gemini-powered smart speaker from September’s Pixel event is now a reality. Meet the new Google Home Speaker, which is a modern take on the Google Home Mini, featuring an updated design and utilizing Gemini instead of the Google Assistant.
Outside of just being a faster AI for any verbal requests, Gemini can handle more natural conversations with context—whether using it normally or in Gemini Live. If you’re unfamiliar with Gemini, the difference between it and Google Assistant is like night and day. Google included a new light ring that provides a glow to display when Gemini is listening, thinking, responding, or in Gemini Live. The speaker’s outer portion is crafted from recycled materials and wrapped in yarn made of a unique 3D knitting process, which reduces fabric waste.
On the audio side of things, the new Home Speaker produces 360-degree audio output, which can be grouped with other Nest speakers for a multi-room setup or use two speakers as a stereo pair. It retains the physical toggle to mute the microphone. You can also pair the Google Home Speaker with another unit to provide cinematic surround sound with a Google TV Streamer.
The Google Home Speaker will arrive in four color options: Porcelain, Hazel, Jade, and Berry for $99. It will be available in the US as well as Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.
Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait a bit to get your hands on one as it’s not launching until sometime in Spring 2026. The reason for the delay is that Google is focused on rolling out Gemini for Home (early access) to as many speakers and smart displays already in your possession.
