Out of the blue, Apple revealed a new model to their iMac line. While its not the Retina iMac many of you hoped for. Its actually a more entry-level but cheaper iMac. Priced at $1,099, its already $200 cheaper than the previous base model. Of course there is some compromise with the price.
While the $1300 model has a 2.7GHz quad-core Intel CPU, this $1100 model has a 1.4GHz dual-core one (the same one inside a MacBook Air). The RAM stays the same at 8GB as the hard drive gets cut in half down to 500GB. You do have configuration options to add a 1TB HD, a Fusion Drive, or a 256GB SSD.
Despite the slight drop of power, this would make a great addition for any household – unless you plan on doing some serious creative work (movie editing, music creating, etc.).
